This diaper changing hack is seriously a game changer, especially for changing baby boys. I swear, you will never get peed on again!!
I have a 3 month old baby boy and during that time I got peed on or had a leaky pee situation more times than I can count. I was trying all the tricks to get it to stop! Finally I discovered this diaper changing hack and have just about 100% reduced the amount of times I’ve been peed on or there’s been pee mid diaper change resulting in a big mess.
Obviously had to share with all my fellow parents! Would work just as well for baby girls too!
This post is all about the genius diaper changing hack all new parents need to know!
Getting peed on is a right of passage, especially as a parents of a baby boy. While some parents have apparently never been peed on, it’s fairly common to open up a diaper, they feel that burst of cold air, and they are triggered to pee. On you, on the changing table, on themselves, wherever!
You might have heard of the wipe hack before. This is where before you start the diaper change, with their diaper still on, you wipe their lower belly with a wipe. Since its the cold that triggers them to pee, the idea is they will do it because of the wipe, and pee within their diaper.
I tried this so many times, as did my husband. It worked super well for him, but not at all for me!
Didn’t matter how long I wiped or how long I waited, I’d still end up with a mess.
In the middle of the night, giving your baby a new outfit and wiping down the changing pad is the last thing you want to do. I’ve even gotten it on our sheets, and at 3am, I just scooted over so I wasn’t directly on it and went back to sleep. #sleepdeprivedlife
Other people have suggested just covering him up with a wipe, but idk I guess my baby has a big bladder because if he peed with a wipe covering him, the pee might not get on me but it pools up behind him. Still a mess!
We also realized he was peeing when we applied diaper rash cream, also resulting in a mess. Notice a theme?
FINALLY, I discovered this genius hack that has changed the game for me. I’m talking NO more mess!
It’s similar to the wipe hack above, but instead of wiping his belly, I just stick the wipe in the front of his diaper and leave it there. I don’t stick it too far down, just a bit down the front.
I leave it for as long as I need to get everything else ready. New diaper, wipes set up, diaper cream, outfit, whatever it may be.
I haven’t gotten peed on ONCE since doing this. GAME CHANGER!
And I know girls pee during diaper changes too, but often it’s less of an issue since they don’t pee up. However, this would work well for them to minimize pee during the diaper changes so you don’t have to go through a ton of diapers!
