This avocado chicken salad couldn’t be simpler, or more delish, and definitely will have your baby loving their protein!

Avocado Chicken Salad baby led weaning recipe

Not necessarily the most appetizing picture, but trust me when I say it’s delicious and will be loved by the entire family! This came together in about a minute, thanks to ready prepped chicken, and my son loved it. Me and my husband loved it too – it was gone really quick.

Honestly, it’s so simple calling it a recipe sounds too generous! But, it was fairly popular on my Instagram so I wanted to make sure it had a spot here on the blog. Also, we all could use more simple but nutrient dense (and delish!!) recipes in our lives.

Also, cook time will depend if you have chicken ready or not.

BABY LED WEANING

This would be a great recipe to serve babies starting at 6 months, once they’ve been safely introduced to the allergens in the recipe. I cut the chicken fairly small for my son, as he has developed his pincer grasp.

On the Solid Starts app they have a chicken salad recipe that has the chicken shredded and marked for 6 months and up. Either should work here for 6 months and up. Typically smaller pieces are recommended as baby gets older because they have the pincer grasp needed to pick up foods, but this recipe keeps everything together so I believe it is okay if they do not have that grasp and will still be able to easily pick up in handfuls. Messy though 🙂 That said, do whatever size you feel most comfortable with.

For information on how to safely serve foods to babies depending on their age (plus so much more), I recommend Solid Starts. The app is free and has tons of information!

ALLERGENS

This recipe contains dairy.

To make dairy free you can use a dairy free yogurt, or just omit the yogurt altogether if you’d like, as just the avocado and chicken together will be plenty yummy!

STORAGE

I would eat this day of. I don’t expect to keep well because of the avocado – it definitely will brown. You can still eat when brown but not nearly as appealing lol. Adjust the measurements accordingly if you want to just make a super small batch for baby.

SUBSTITUTES & ADD INS

Add any spices you like! A squeeze of lemon would be good here too.

Could you estimate the measurement of a small avocado? I have mashed avocados in containers and not actual avocados that I use. Thank you.

I would say roughly a half cup!
