Having all of these diaper caddy essentials means that from quick changes to full on blowouts you will be prepared to tackle them all. As an ex nanny of 15+ years and new mom of a 3 month old, I have changed my fair share of diapers, let me tell ya. I now know exactly what you need to keep at hand for all the diaper changes to come!
This post is all about the diaper caddy essentials you need!
1. Diapers
Well, this one is obvious! But having plenty of diapers stocked and at the ready is obviously essential for any diaper caddy.
Our favorites have been Huggies Little Snugglers!
2. Overnight Diapers
If your baby is using overnight diapers, having those in your caddy is great too!
We’ve been using Huggies overnight diapers and they work pretty well, but they have leaked on us a couple of times. Thinking of trying Coterie once we run out. I’ve heard really good things! Apparently they’re sold at Whole Foods, which is great because online you have to purchase in a large pack of them.
3. Wipes
Having wipes you can easily access is crucial to any diaper station you have set up in your home.
These wipes have been our favorite after trying out quite a few different brands.
4. Baby Wipes dispenser
I personally prefer having a baby wipes dispenser at my diaper changing station. I don’t love using the light plastic ones that you can refill, or even just the individual packs that come in a big box of baby wipes. I find in a diaper emergency kind of situation, I need the wipes to come out easily, and they often can get all stuck together and not separate in either of those.
Using the Ubbi baby wipes dispenser is great because it has a weight, so all the wipes are weighed down and you can easily pull one at a time.
5. Diaper Cream
Babies have very sensitive skin and diaper rashes are common for a number of reasons. Maybe from a product that didn’t work well for your baby, maybe from being wiped a ton that day, maybe they poop constantly and it’s just hard to keep up. Whatever it may be, it’s normal and having a diaper cream on hand is essential for taking care of it.
We’ve tried a handful, and this one has been the most effective and quickest with tackling his rashes. I’m talking noticing improvement same day! Love it. Easy to apply too. I usually squeeze some onto a wipe and spread it that way.
6. Stain Remover
From blowouts to spit up and food if your baby is eating, they are messy little things! I usually treat it after I get my baby out of the dirty clothes and then throw it in his hamper so it can sit until I do laundry. So far that’s been working really well for us.
This stain remover has been incredible! Non-toxic and super effective. We’ve only really tested it on blowouts, but I feel like that’s kinda all you need to know right? If it can get that out, it’s a win in my book.
7. Skin Protectant
Having some kind of skin protectant is a great product to keep nearby. I use Aquaphor personally. Get it in the tub not the tube because it’s super hard to squeeze imo.
We use this if a diaper rash has been mostly taken care of but we want his skin to have a little extra protection. Used it a ton when he was a newborn and pooped for every single diaper to create a barrier for his skin. He had a reaction to his bandaid after getting a shot and I put that on it. Really it has many uses!
8. Hand Sanitizer
This was one I didn’t realize would be so essential, but having hand sanitizer nearby is key. In an ideal world, you’d be able to easily wash your hands after changing the baby, but it just isn’t always possible. Sometimes you just need to quickly sanitize until you can properly wash up, or if it’s not a messy change. Buy it in bulk!
9. Paper Towels
Another product I didn’t realize would be a must have. Maybe you’ll luck into a baby who never pees during a diaper change, but if that’s not the case, trust me, you’ll want a roll nearby.
10. Sanitizing Wipes
Similarly, having sanitizing wipes to wipe down the changing pad as often as you feel comfortable, or after super messy changes. Applies if you’re using a wipeable pad and not a changing pad with a cover. We use these since they’re created with babies in mind!
Not essential, but nice to have…
11. Hair Brush
I have a handful of things at our main changing table set up that I use after bath time, a little hair brush being one of them.
12. Grooming Tool
Same goes for this. Great for getting boogers out of their noses, helping clear out ear wax, and cleaning fingernails. I use this grooming tool a TON!
13. Q-Tips
I have these baby q-tips on hand for after bath to clean up his ears. I really like these compared to regular q-tips because they’re shaped in a way so it ensures you can’t accidentally get too far into baby’s ear.
14. Lotion
Some people like to apply baby lotion after bath time or when they feel their baby needs it. Keeping it at your changing table would be a great place to store it!
15. Change of Clothes
In case this is the kind of diaper changing station that you’ll be moving around the house and isn’t on top of a dresser, keeping a change of clothes in your caddy is definitely essential for the particularly messy changes.
