If you find yourself dealing with 6dpo cramping, you’re probably curious what that could possibly mean. Sharing my personal experience below!

If you’re in your two week wait, and experiencing 6dpo cramping, I’m sure you’re very curious what that could possibly mean. Is a positive pregnancy test in your future? It’s so hard not to read into every single symptom – you’re not alone.
This is exactly what happened when I experienced 6dpo cramping, and if it resulted in a positive pregnancy test.
This post is all about 6dpo cramping and what it might mean!
Before diving into all about my 6dpo cramping experience and the end result, I do want to share of course that this is going to be different for everyone. What it meant for me COULD be what it means for you, but it could mean something different.
I don’t share this to create false hope, but to simply share my experience for any women out there searching the internet for what their 6dpo cramps could mean.
I know how brutal the tww can be, and one thing that got me through was researching and going down every single rabbit hole I could for any symptom I was experiencing!
In case you want to read more details, here are all of my pregnancy symptoms after ovulation day by day!
The evening of 5dpo, I started to experience some very minor back pain on one side while doing the dishes as well was some light cramping. I noticed it, but didn’t really think much of it.
Then comes 6dpo, and the cramping becomes a bit more noticeable and definitely more than what I was feeling the night before. It was only on my right side. It wasn’t enough to need pain meds whatsoever, and I wouldn’t have wanted to anyways because I wanted to be able to feel anything going on in my body.
The 6dpo cramping continued all day, staying at the same intensity.
I now know that it was implantation cramps, because 2 days later on 8 dpo, I got my very first positive pregnancy test. More on that here > my 8dpo pregnancy test experience.
Typically I did not experience cramps leading up to my period, so these stuck out to me as something outside of my norm. Also, if I ever did experience cramps before getting my period (rarely, or previously with my IUD) it was very much on both sides. NEVER on just one.
They just felt different than what I was feeling. In my gut I knew they were something else, and not a sign my period was about to start.
For me, fortunately, 6dpo cramping was my first clear sign that I was going to get a positive pregnancy test! It was my little baby implanting in my tummy. And here we are, just about a year later, with our beautiful baby boy! He’s 3 months old and the light of our lives.
Does 6dpo cramping always mean implantation or a positive pregnancy test is coming?
Unfortunately, no it does not. I wish I could say that it does.
For some, it’s totally normal to have cramping at that point in their cycle, and just means their period is coming. For others, it might not be the norm, but it could still just mean their period is coming.
There isn’t a way to know for sure if it’s implantation or not.
Also, you could not experience any kind of cramping whatsoever, and still end up with a positive pregnancy test! No cramping doesn’t automatically equal negative, just like cramping doesn’t automatically equal positive.
I know that isn’t the most helpful, but for me personally, I really found comfort and hope (even if false) in reading other women’s experiences, so I wanted to share mine.
Even though I knew any symptom I was experiencing before my positive could just be a regular part of my cycle and I was just symptom spotting, it was nice to know I wasn’t crazy or alone for doing so.
Wishing you lots of luck and that your 6dpo cramping turns out to be a positive pregnancy test, if that’s what you’re hoping for!
