The Silverette Nursing Cups are absolutely one of the breastfeeding essentials that set up my breastfeeding journey for success and I would repurchase again and again!

My breastfeeding journey started out a bit rough, but the Silverette Nursing Cups really turned things around for me and my son! Sharing below exactly how I used them and how they saved me.
This post is all about the Silverette Nursing Cups!
My breastfeeding journey started out as many other women’s, right in the hospital soon after giving birth. We did some skin to skin immediately following birth, while the doctor sewed me up, then about an hour later it was time to try!
I pushed for a long time during labor, and my poor guy was stuck in the birth canal for quite a bit, meaning his jaw was very tight. He was an enthusiastic latcher, and an aggressive one too. Everyone kept referring to him as a piranha!
He as super quick with it, and wouldn’t really open his mouth wide enough to get a proper later, but instead focused all of his efforts right on my nipple.
For me this meant super intense pain. It can be painful to adjust to breastfeeding no matter what, especially as a new mom with it being a completely new sensation, experience, etc. Your body needs time to adjust in lots of ways to it. Add an aggressive latch and suck on top of that? Ouch.
Both nipples were in excruciating pain and covered in bruises and marks, and every time we tried it got worse and worse. I’d only be able to last a few seconds before I had to pull him off because the pain was unbearable.
It was a challenging start to our breastfeeding journey for sure. One of the lactation consultants at the hospital recommended the Silverette Nursing Cups though and I just about immediately placed an order so they’d be waiting for me once we got home from the hospital.
These were a game changer.
Essentially they are silver cups that hover around your nipple, meaning no clothing or bras or anything touch them, so they can have time to properly heal and rest between nursing sessions.
I started using them the minute we got home. After every nursing session I would slather on nipple cream – this one and this one have been my favorites, and then use the Silverette Nursing Cups. I wore them 24/7, even when we went out and about, which yes, looked a little funny. But I really didn’t care 😂
After a few days of using them constantly, my nipples were basically good as new!
We still have some work to do on our latch, but all in all, 2 and a half weeks later and our breastfeeding journey is going absolutely amazingly, especially compared to how it was just starting out.
I never thought we get here! And I really owe it all to the Silverette Nursing Cups (and me and my son of course for working so hard at it ❤️ teamwork!)
