This strawberry french toast is a delicious way to serve breakfast to those berry obsessed babies out there!!

baby led weaning recipe Strawberry French Toast

This french toast was a win for my son! He loves all things berry, so I knew he’d love this. Plus, fiber from the whole grain bread and protein from the egg. An all around win. Not to mention it was super simple to make!

This was a smaller batch, but feel free to double or triple to meal prep ahead of time.

BABY LED WEANING

This would be a great recipe to serve babies starting at 6 months, once they’ve been safely introduced to the allergens in the french toast. For younger babies, typically it’s best to serve bigger pieces since those are easier for them to hold. Strips of the french toast for them to hold would work great! Once they develop the pincer grasp (pointer and thumb pinching together), then you can start to give them smaller pieces, shown above.

For information on how to safely serve foods to babies depending on their age (plus so much more), I recommend Solid Starts. The app is free and has tons of information!

ALLERGENS

This recipe contains egg and dairy, plus whatever allergens are in the bread of your choice (all bread should work here so do what works best for you and your little one!)

Dairy free milk will work fine.

I haven’t yet tested as an egg free recipe, and am not sure how it will work since egg is a big component of the batter. I will test as soon as I can! If you’d like to try, here’s one that has good reviews and is available online. Please report back!

STORAGE

I would store these in the fridge for 4 days max, then transfer to the freezer. Freeze in a single layer, I typically will place on a baking sheet with parchment paper, and once frozen transfer to another container or ziplock bag. If you freeze altogether it’s impossible to separate, this makes it easy.

To reheat I put in the toaster oven until warm, but you could also do the microwave.

SUBSTITUTES & ADD INS

Any fruit here that can be mashed will work! Fresh fruit fine to use too.

Made this with sourdough so there was no added sugar at all. My 1 year old and the whole family loved it!
