These hidden veggie chocolate donuts are a yummy treat you’ll feel good about serving your toddler (or yourself!!)

healthy toddler breakfast

The way my son woke up every single morning after I made these asking for a “dodi nonut” aka chocolate donut. Instant hit in our house!! And super nutritious from the oats, spinach, and yogurt. Give them a try and let me know if your little one approves!

Also, if you don’t have oat flour, you can blend oats to make it. That’s what I usually do!

Prep Time:10 minutes mins
Cook Time:15 minutes mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh spinach packed
  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • optional: 2 tbsp mini chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a donut pan.
  • Add the spinach, banana, egg, Greek yogurt, maple syrup (or honey), and vanilla to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
  • Pour into a bowl, then add the oat flour, almond flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until just combined.
  • Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each about 3/4 full. Top with chocolate chips if using.
  • Bake for 15–18 minutes, until the centers are set and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Let cool for about 10 minutes before removing from the pan. They will continue to firm up as they cool.

Here’s a link to my donut pan. I love that it’s metal reinforced so it’s not flimsy going in and out of the oven, and it’s dishwasher safe!

Enjoy! And find more of my recipes here.
