These peanut butter banana oat bars could not be easier to make, and came out SO so delicious. One of my personal faves!

baby led weaning recipe Peanut Butter Banana Oat Bars

This one I put in the oven with no expectations it would turn out lol I was thinking it would be the fail of the batch. Surprise surprise – it was my personal favorite! Turned out so good!!

The bars are soft and so flavorful. Perfectly sweet with a ton of peanut butter flavor. Going to be on my breakfast and snack rotation for sure.

BABY LED WEANING

This would be a great recipe to serve babies starting at 6 months, once they’ve been safely introduced to the allergens in the muffins. For younger babies, typically it’s best to serve bigger pieces since those are easier for them to hold. Once they develop the pincer grasp (pointer and thumb pinching together), then you can start to give them smaller pieces.

For information on how to safely serve foods to babies depending on their age (plus so much more), I recommend Solid Starts. The app is free and has tons of information!

ALLERGENS

This recipe has oats and peanut butter. GF oats should work fine here. Other nut butters can sub in if your little has a peanut allergy (like sunflower butter.)

Egg free!! 😊

STORAGE

I am storing these on the counter in an air-tight container for 4 days, then will freeze. To reheat from frozen I usually microwave for a minute, or put in the fridge overnight.

SUBSTITUTES & ADD INS

Applesauce would likely sub in easily for the mashed banana! Or you could do a mixture of applesauce and banana.

TOOLS USED/RECOMMENDED

Mixing bowl

8×8 pan – I have this one (and a TON of bakeware from this brand. So high quality!!)

Parchment paper – I buy precut online because I find dealing with a roll of parchment to be the most annoying thing and it’s just so much easier to have it cut for you! Comes in a variety of sizes. Pro tip – crumple up before lining your pan and it will stay in there much better.

Can baby hold and eat these or need to be broken up? He tried to put the entire bar in his mouth!

Hi Misti! It’s going to depend on age and if he has the pincer grasp (picking up with pointer finger + thumb.) Once they have that grasp you can break into smaller pieces, but usually it’s easier for them to hold bigger pieces if they don’t have that grasp yet. It’s going to be dependent baby to baby – you know your little one best!!

Do you think these would work with protein oats? Making regular ones for my girl but started wondering if I could turn these into more of a protein bar for my husband as well!

Hello! How much applesauce would you use to replace the bananas? Thank you!

Hi! I haven’t yet tried it myself but from what I’ve read they can be subbed 1:1, and I also found this “½ cup of applesauce per banana”. Let me know if you give it a go!
