Let’s be honest, pregnancy can be quite the wild ride with all of the weird pregnancy symptoms that come along with it. Sharing all about the symptoms you might not have been aware of!

I know we’re all familiar with the classic morning sickness and maybe a handful of other, but there are so many weird pregnancy symptoms I had no idea about until I actually became pregnant myself and experienced them.
This is coming from someone who did way too much pregnancy research ahead of time and thought she knew it all, but my world was rocked once I got pregnant.
Sharing all of my weird pregnancy symptoms below, so you can be better prepared than I was!
And just to give you a clear warning, this post is very TMI. To be honest, TMI gets a whole new meaning once you become pregnant!
This post is all about weird pregnancy symptoms.
21 Weird Pregnancy Symptoms You Probably Haven’t Heard Of
1. Veiny Breasts Early Pregnancy Symptom
Yup. Starting out strong with this one.
Had to start with one of many weird pregnancy symptoms because it was my very very first clue I was actually pregnant!
I was around 7 DPO when I noticed that I was veinier on my chest and also on my lower stomach and upper thighs, like they were all pointing to my uterus lol. At that point, the only other possible symptom I had at that point was some very dull cramping around 6 DPO, but I didn’t know if that was just early pregnancy cramps or what.
The veins however, were new. And while I wasn’t totally sure I just hadn’t noticed them before TTC, I was almost positive they were a clue of something. Turns out I was right, got my first positive pregnancy test at 8 DPO!
The veins have been only getting more noticeable since then.
2. Morning Sickness aka All Day or Night Sickness
We all know about morning sickness, that’s nothing new.
However, for me, it was all day sickness for many weeks then shifted to just evening sickness. Never once did I have morning sickness that went away after the morning was over. It maybe started in the morning, but would last the whole day.
Who is out here calling it morning sickness when it so often isn’t like that? Definitely one of my weird pregnancy symptoms that threw me off and surprised me that it wasn’t just in the morning.
Another piece to this is that everyone claims nausea will be gone when you hit the second trimester. WRONG. Well, at least it was for me.
Took me until around week 15 to have no nausea, although I still was left with evening gagging, which we’ll get into later. From sharing on TikTok I’ve learned that it can last as long as your entire pregnancy. It even can go away and come back in your third trimester, which truly scares me. All in all, it widely varies woman to woman.
3. Weird Pregnancy Symptoms Come and Go
Honestly, this applies to all symptoms, weird or not!
This isn’t a specific symptom, but I had no idea that pregnancy symptoms could come and go. I’d have a few weeks where one would go away, then it would return. I assumed once I was done I was done!
For a while it triggered my anxiety to have an early pregnancy symptom come in waves, but I soon figured out that was totally normal.
4. Loss of Hunger
My appetite was definitely impacted and I had aversions to just about everything for a while, but one thing I didn’t expect was to not feel hungry.
I figured pregnancy was the time of plenty of hunger, since you’re growing an entire human, but up until around week 20 I felt NO hunger sensations. That paired with food aversions made eating quite challenging.
5. Intense Thirst (probably my favorite of the weird pregnancy symptoms)
This started for me day one, and even now at 28 weeks, is still going strong.
I. AM. SO. THIRSTY.
Can never get enough to drink. Ice water is my best friend! This water bottle has not left my side, morning and night, I am never not chugging. It’s a bit pricey, but I’ve easily gotten my money’s worth. Keeps my water ICE cold, which is how I need it (especially during those many weeks of nausea.)
If you’re not quite looking to spend that, this water bottle looks to be a solid dupe!
To be honest though, I kind of love how constantly refreshing water is right now. Not too mad about this one (minus how often it makes me pee ๐!
(Don’t quote me on this, but I believe later on in pregnancy this can be a sign of a more serious condition, so might be worth checking in with your doctor on this if you’re experiencing it too!)
6. Peeing More in Early Pregnancy
We’re all probably familiar with increased urination with pregnancy. But I had heard about it more in later pregnancy when things have shifted all around and baby is pushing on your bladder.
Nope, for me it happened pretty much immediately when I got pregnant.
7. Painful Sneezes
Yup, this is thanks to round ligament pain. One of the more painful of the weird pregnancy symptoms.
Essentially, all your ligaments are relaxing and moving around, making room for baby which means a less comfortable body experience for you.
Round ligament pain can show itself in a variety of ways, for me though it was very very painful sneezes. I now brace for all my sneezes, and that helps a ton.

8. Crotch Pain
To be honest, I’m not totally sure if this is round ligament pain I’m experiencing or just my body having a hard time with the extra weight and extra pressure down there with my growing baby.
This started around 20-ish weeks or so and I feel it specifically when getting up from laying down in bed.
9. Pregnancy Headaches aka the Most Painful of My Weird Pregnancy Symptoms
Pregnancy headaches are truly something else entirely. More like a migraine than a headache.
I’m someone who is prone to headaches anyways, and I think pregnancy just intensifies them a ton. Advil is usually my go-to medicine for headaches, but you can’t take that while pregnant, and Tylenol just barely touches them. It’s rough.
At the beginning of my second trimester they started and would last a few days each. Two times I ended up throwing up from them.
I’ve learned that crying can trigger them, which is motivation to try and keep my emotions in check. Emphasis on try.
But even just last week I had a really really horrible one where I had to just lay down in a dark room. I thought maybe it was allergies, but looking back I think it was that I hadn’t had enough water over the weekend cause I had been all over the place.
Worth mentioning to your doctor if you experience them as well, they can be a sign of something more serious much later on in your pregnancy.
10. Sensitive Gag Reflex
Possibly the weirdest of my weird pregnancy symptoms?
Once my nausea eventually subsided around 15 weeks, I was left with a very sensitive gag reflex at night. Just felt like anything was going to make me gag. Felt super aware of it. So bizarre.
Once I thought maybe I should lean into it and just let myself gag and see what happens. I thought maybe I’d throw up and the reflex would go away. Nope, no throw up and gag reflex was still going strong.
11. Increased Saliva aka the WORST of my Weird Pregnancy Symptoms
Okay no, I lied, this one is definitely the weirdest of my weird pregnancy symptoms.
I think it was around week 8 or so until around week 20ish, I was SO spitty. I was constantly going to the trashcan or sink to spit. My mouth would just fill up with so much saliva for no reason!
12. Heartburn
I’m sure plenty of us have heart of heartburn in pregnancy, but what was weird about it was that it would be caused by something completely non-heartburn inducing. Could be the most bland food in the world, but I’d still have some acid coming up my throat.
13. All Crying Turns to Sobs
This one is probably the worst for my husband, lol.
There is no light crying, welling up, or single tear drops. If I’m crying, I am sobbing.
It’s like the second the emotions start to come to the surface they all just spill out of me and other things come spilling along too. Usually starts over something small, but then will end up me crying over something much bigger because my hormones got the best of me.
I’ve learned that I have to really keep it in check otherwise I will get a 2 day migraine from it and that is SO not worth it.
The other day I thought maybe that baby was moving a little less than normal. I was around 26 weeks, so not quite at the point where I should be counting kicks, but not too far off either. I noticed a change to his movement pattern and got myself SO worked up about it.
I wanted to calm down and call the doctor just to double check but I could not get myself to stop crying. Baby was totally fine, kicked up a storm like 20 minutes later. Probably was rocked to sleep from my sobbing lol. But it was hard to get myself to chill.
14. Congestion, Nose Bleeds, and Snoring
These all go hand in hand, so I’m bunching them together.
Lots of congestion. Lots of blowing my nose – with that, usually blood. And lots of snoring (embarrassing!!)

15. Breathing is Hard
I don’t mean how as you get more pregnant you get more out of breath, which is true and I’ve absolutely experienced that, but I had heard of that one.
No, this is just me laying down and it’s hard to breathe. I feel like I have to reposition myself in order to properly take a breath. It’s odd. I think it’s organs and things shifting all around in there.
16. Drooling at Night
I have woken up mannnnny many times at this point with a big ‘ol drool puddle on my pillow. That plus my snoring makes me the cutest little pregnant sleeper ever ๐
17. Pregnancy Insomnia
This is another one I had heard of, but typically being a pregnancy symptom that starts in the third trimester.
Nope, for me this started week 4. Every time I wake up in the middle of the night to pee, which luckily so far has only been once, it takes me a minimum of an hour to fall back asleep. Usually somewhere around 2-2.5.
Still going strong at 28 weeks ๐ด
18. Feet Hurt
This started for me around week 18 and I thought it was an isolated incident. Around the holidays I hosted family and had been on my feet a ton cooking and cleaning. Towards the end of the day on Christmas my feet hurt SO so bad. Absolutely had to be off of them.
I figured it was because of me being up a ton, but it’s stayed with me.
It’s not quite as extreme as the holidays, but most days my feet hurt by the end of the day. Crocs seem to be the only thing that somewhat helps. Never thought I’d be a Crocs gal, but here we are. Big fan of the color Stucco!
19. Pregnancy Discharge
The grossest of all of the weird pregnancy symptoms.
I hadn’t heard of this one at all! Started immediately and only getting worse the further along in pregnancy I get.
Trust me when I tell you to stock up on panty liners now, or you’ll go through infinite pairs of underwear every single day. Those are the ones that have saved me. The anti-bunch thing is a must for how often you’re peeing lol. See – tmi truly takes on a whole new meaning with pregnancy.
20. Constipation
Another one that started day one. I miss regular bathroom habits so much. Won’t go into detail, but this one ain’t fun.
And no food, water, or anything else seems to make a difference.
21. Bad Taste in My Mouth
This one started around 8 weeks or so, went away for a few weeks, then came back. Anytime I eat anything sweet, candy, fruit, juice, or even just basic carbs like pretzels or crackers, my mouth is left with a horrible taste. Really hard to describe, I guess kind of a bitter taste. At first mints helped, but now the only thing that helps is to eat something salty.
Since I’m only 28 weeks, I’ll be sure to update this if any more weird pregnancy symptoms come my way. I hope this help you to be a lot more prepared for what to expect that I was!
