These baby purée pancakes couldn’t be easier, and are a super simple way to use up purées once your baby starts transitioning away from them.

This recipe happened because my son basically is anti-purée lol. He never really took to them, and when we started solids we pretty much immediately were doing baby led weaning because he wanted to hold food himself. I had a handful of pouches and purées on hand already in preparation for him that were going unused so I decided to turn them into little pancakes. He LOVED them!! Great way to ensure they don’t go to waste.
I have a handful of prune purées on hand in case of emergency lol and since my son doesn’t really eat purées I plan to make a batch to give when we need them 😂
BABY LED WEANING
This would be a great recipe to serve babies starting at 6 months, once they’ve been safely introduced to the allergens in the pancakes. For younger babies, typically it’s best to serve bigger pieces since those are easier for them to hold. Half pancakes or strips would work well here. Once they develop the pincer grasp (pointer and thumb pinching together), then you can start to give them smaller pieces.

ALLERGENS
This recipe contains flour and egg, plus whatever other allergens might be in your purée.
GF flour should work here.
I have tried making these egg free and did 2 tbsp full fat greek yogurt plus 1 tbsp water. It’s a softer batter. I would suggest holding off on adding water until you add in the yogurt and see what the texture of the batter is like, you don’t want it to be too runny. The pancakes will be softer inside, but still delicious!
I plan to test them again with an actual egg replacement, and will update here when I do. If you’d like to try, here’s one that has good reviews and is available online.
STORAGE
I would store these in the fridge for 4 days max, then transferred to the freezer. Freeze in a single layer, I typically will place on a baking sheet with parchment paper, and once frozen transfer to another container or ziplock bag. If you freeze altogether it’s impossible to separate, this makes it easy.
To reheat I put in the toaster oven until warm, but you could also do the microwave. If you’re doing the egg free version I’d do the toaster oven.
SUBSTITUTES & ADD INS
I used a strawberry applesauce pouch, but any purée should work! Mix it up with whatever flavors baby likes, or whatever purées you need to use up 😉
If your batter seems too wet, add in more flour.
