These cottage cheese mini muffins are the perfect higher protein meal or snack for little ones!

I know cottage cheese can be a hot topic 😂 but you’ll never notice them in this recipe since we blend up the cottage cheese first! All it does is add protein and moisture, making these muffins higher in protein. They’re all naturally sweetened, and have whole wheat flour, so a bit of fiber too. Super fluffy! My son loved them!
BABY LED WEANING
This would be a great recipe to serve babies starting at 6 months, once they’ve been safely introduced to the allergens in the recipe. For younger babies, typically it’s best to serve bigger pieces since those are easier for them to hold. Once they develop the pincer grasp (pointer and thumb pinching together), then you can start to give them smaller pieces.
For information on how to safely serve foods to babies depending on their age (plus so much more), I recommend Solid Starts. The app is free and has tons of information!
ALLERGENS
This recipe has eggs, dairy, and wheat.
If you’d like to try it with an egg replacer, this one available online at Target. This post highlights other ideas for egg substitutes in recipes.
STORAGE
I stored these in the fridge for 4 days, then transferred to the freezer. They can stay in the freezer for 2-3 months.
To freeze I would line a baking sheet with foil or parchment then lay in a single layer and place in the freezer. Once frozen (give it a few hours) you can transfer to another container. This way they are individually frozen rather than all stuck together in one huge block!
To reheat I would either thaw in the fridge overnight then toast or microwave, or just toast or microwave from frozen. My son loved them served warm with a little butter 🙂
SUBSTITUTES & ADD INS
Banana can usually sub in for applesauce if you’d prefer. You could also top with blueberries or other fruit.
TOOLS USED/RECOMMENDED
Mini muffin tin – this is the one we have. I love it because you don’t need to use liners with it and it washes really easily!
Cookie scoop – I love using this to scoop meatballs, pancake batter, and tons more. I use this thing ALL the time when cooking for my son (and just in general)
Something to blend the cottage cheese – I used my immersion blender but a regular blender or food processor would work just fine!

You’re missing where to put the salt, vanilla and cinnamon.
oh goodness, that might be helpful to include 😂 🤦♀️ good catch, just added it in! But wet goes with wet, and dry goes with dry!
How would you change the time for cooking and temperature if you bake them in a regular size muffin trays.
Thanks in advance!
Hi! Usually regular size muffins take somewhere around 18-25 minutes, so I’d start checking at the 18 minute mark. Let me know how they turn out!
Hi,
Do you bake at 190 degree as well or 190 just to preheat?
Because I already lower the temperature to 180-175 but the muffin came out really dark colour
Thank you 🥰
Baked at that temp! Not sure why they turned out dark though, did you make any swaps?
Could you substitute the whole wheat or ap flour for oat or almond flour?
Oat flour should sub in well! It can be a little dense but should work 🙂
The flavor and texture was not there for me. Not a repeat recipe.
So sorry they didn’t work out for you!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! My little one loves this and I’ve made it countless times this year. They freeze very well so I always have a stash ready for him.
Thank you so much for making them! I’m happy to hear they are a hit 🙂
Could you use sweetened applesauce? Accidentally grabbed the wrong one 😅
For sure! They’ll just be sweeter 🙂
