Dye Stealer Pregnancy Test

If you’re in your TTC journey, you’ve probably come across the concept of a dye stealer pregnancy test. So many terms and acronyms to learn, right?! Here’s a video of exactly what my dye stealers looked like!

This post is all about a dye stealer pregnancy test.

What is a dye stealer pregnancy test?

Pregnancy tests pick up the hormone hCG in your urine, and have a test line (your results) and control line. How dark the test line is will depend on how much hCG is in your urine. The further along you get, the more hCG will be in your system and detected by the test. What can happen is that there is so much hCG that the test pulls dye from the control like, or steals it – aka a dye stealer pregnancy test!

Do dye stealers mean anything?

While they can be a cool finding, they unfortunately don’t mean anything besides that there is hCG in your system. Some people thing it automatically means twins or a healthy and viable pregnancy, but sadly they cannot provide that kind of reassurance. That said, it can be really nice to see that the hCG is increasing as the days go on, especially in those really early weeks!

These are after they’ve dried, the video is when they’re loading in real time (just sped up.)

And here we are, a little less than a year later, with baby boy playing beside me as I write this! ❤️ While they don’t necessarily mean anything in terms of the health of your pregnancy, they’re still nice to see. It still means hCG is increasing in your system, and in those super super early days of your pregnancy, even false reassurance can be nice.

In those first few weeks where it all doesn’t seem real, you might not have even called the doctor for your first appointment yet, even just a few minutes of hope can be what you need to get through the day.
